Rules of Competition, Tee Times, Refreshments and Results Reporting
The Harry Young memorial Competition is structured for middle to higher handicap players who wish to
have the opportunity to hone their competitive skills in a friendly team oriented environment. Team
members should be golfers not usually involved in other competitive inter-club competitions.
Each club's team is comprised of six golfers and each team's lowest handicappers play against one
another, followed by the second lowest and so on. The highest handicap players on each team should
normally be teeing off last. There are three foursomes, comprised of two members from each team.
Each foursome will have two head to head match play contests plus a team net best ball match. Thus
there will be three points available for each foursome. Total match points available weekly would be 9.
-
Tee Times must be strictly adhered to,
should a player be late, the foursome behind the late players group shall move up and tee off.
If the late player has not arrived when the third tee time arrives, then the other three players
shall tee of promptly.
-
In head to head matches, competitors will receive strokes of the lower of
the two player's handicap.
-
Team Net Best Ball all players stoke off the lowest handicap
player in the foursome.
-
Ties in any match result in one half point a side.
-
Any team which has a player playing off the "wrong handicap" will
default all points for that weeks contest e.g. 9-0.
The team Captain must ensure all his team members are using their
correct handicaps.
This rule will be strictly enforced.
-
Team total slope factor, in any given week, MUST TOTAL not less than 50.0,
and not more than 84.0. The 50-84 range is Handicaps at any given course (i.e. the one you play at)
not a total of slope-rating points. (If the slope total is too high, then player's handicaps are
to be adjusted to fit within the proper range)
-
Power carts may be used, however all players are encouraged to remember that this competition
has a large inter-action/socialization component and "walking and talking" with your competitors
is expected.

competitive inter-club contests.
Team Selections
Every Captain / Club has their own way of selecting their twelve man team, depending upon the number
of club members who express an interest in participating. At Uplands there is acute pressure and as
a result we have developed the following format for selection. The Uplands try out process is provided
for information only and it is offered as a template should Captains be looking for a team selection
process.
Process
-
Team Captain has three Captains choices. This allows for continuity of participants,
rewards previous years high performers and most importantly ensures the Captain is on the team.
This also ensures that the Team's slope factor requirements are met.
-
The other nine players qualify by playing three rounds under qualifying conditions, two of
which are used. The best nine qualifiers then form the balance of the team, again bearing in
mind the team slope factor requirements.
Note: under extreme circumstances for any week, if six team members
can't be fielded, outside players are used.
Qualifying Conditions
-
The three rounds are to be played in the month of March.
-
To count as a qualifying round the qualifier signs up at the Pro Shop and either leaves a chit
with the Pro Shop staff or goes on the Pro Shop list. The qualifier provides his name, date
and name of attesting partner. If the chit is not filled in or the Pro Shop list not completed,
and attested, then there is a record of the attempt and that round still counts. and an x is place
in the column.
This way a person can't change his mind during a bad round. Also it ensures it is in fact best
2 of 3, rather than best 2 of 8.
Team Captains selections are encouraged to be in place by early April as Competition begins
April 15, 2008.
