The
City Open Buttons is contested through the winter months
and involves all 12 of the Zone 5 18 hole clubs. The
two-man team consists of two male players, one of which
may be an eligible Professional from that club or an
employee, with amateur status, affiliated with that same
club. Junior golfers have their own events and as
such are not eligible to represent their club in the Open
Buttons. You do not have to use the same two players for
all matches.
In
2008/2009 there will be a new format for the Buttons.
Each golf club, represented by a 2 man team will play a best
ball match against every golf club participating in the
competition. Handicaps are not used in the matches. The winning team will collect one point
and in the event of a tie after 18 holes each team will get
a half point. The club with the most points at the end
of the competition will be awarded the trophy. Matches
are played on Sundays (see schedule below) and the winning
team has the responsibility of reporting the results to the
coordinator. It is the responsibility of the home team
to ensure that a tee time is available for the matches.
Historically the tee times for Buttons matches have been between
10:00 am and 11:00 am. The matches will take place
every second week and in the event a match cannot be played
due to weather it can be played the following week on a
mutually agreeable date.
